Alan Rowland is the first in his family to earn a college degree. This 2021 physics graduate will make history in his family again by being the first to attend graduate school.
Thanks to the Gamecock Guarantee program, Rowland was able to attend South Carolina. Despite his initial feeling of inadequacy, he pushed himself to get involved. He pursued research and served as a mentor to more than 100 honors freshmen. He also lobbied in Washington, D.C. alongside physics professor Yordanka Ilieva.
