2012 visual communications graduate Anna Wiederkehr is the senior visual journalist for FiveThirtyEight.
FiveThirtyEight is a website that uses statistical data to explore everything from sports to politics. Her daily responsibilities include editing journalists’ work, leading critiques and ensuring a consistent style for all content. Having a degree in journalism allows her to have an advantage.
“I have that edge of understanding editorial and understanding that it’s not always about the beauty of the design and the technical implementation — it’s also about if the story is relevant and what the editorial drive is behind why we’re publishing it,” Wiederkehr said. “I think people are much more willing to see us as a credible organization based on the type of data journalism that we produce.”
Wiederkehr hopes the work she’s doing will help people make informed decisions and rely on her to provide valuable content.
