Ph.D. graduate finds her path

August 2021 graduate and South Carolina native Ashley Godwin didn't let a hand disability prevent her from studying medicine.

Godwin always had a fascination with medicine but has a hand disability called focal dystonia. She knew surgery would not be an option for her but was determined to find another way.

Gene Reeder, Ph.D., director of Outcomes Research, encouraged her to consider the Ph.D. program in Pharmacy Administration, which led to Godwin finding a passion for market research.

“What is great about this program is the ability to take classes throughout campus – public health, business, and market research. I love the ability to collaborate with other students,” Godwin says. “It’s an opportunity to interview people, conduct surveys, and learn what people think.”

Godwin is currently a senior market research associate for Putnam Associates, a pharmaceutical consulting firm in Boston, Massachusetts.
