UPDATE 3/19/2020 5:30 PM: Today, President Bob Caslen and the University of South Carolina's senior administration made the difficult decision to extend remote learning through the end of the spring semester. The University of South Carolina campuses will remain closed during this time, and spring commencement ceremonies scheduled in May have been postponed.
All University and Alumni Association events are canceled through the end of the spring semester. Updates regarding Alumni Association events can be found on our events page. We are currently seeking virtual alternatives for some planned events, and will update our alumni, students, and members accordingly.
Please visit the University of South Carolina's website and Novel Coronavirus page for the most recent information.
We deeply regret that the situation has caused disappointment for so many students who were spending their last semester on campus. Please know that the entire Alumni Association staff is always here for you. You may have been a student for just a short time, but you are a Gamecock for a lifetime.
Forever to thee.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE 3/12/2020 5:00 PM:
Dear UofSC Alumni Family,
As you have likely heard, the University of South Carolina will be taking measures to mitigate risk in the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). As the University’s first priority remains the health, safety and security of our students, faculty, staff and community, we wanted to let you know that the following decisions have been made regarding the Columbia campus schedule:
Following spring break, classes will be canceled for the week of March 16 - 22.
All campus events will be canceled at least until April 5.
From Monday, March 23 through Sunday, April 3, all face-to-face instruction in lectures, discussion sections, seminars and other similar classroom settings will be suspended and move to virtual instruction.
The university will remain open, including residence halls, food services and limited transit.
Students are encouraged to not return to campus during the period of March 16 through April 3, although they will not be forbidden from doing so.
Gamecock athletics have been impacted as well. The SEC released a statement yesterday that the conference has suspended all regular season competition in all sports on SEC campuses until March 30. The remainder of the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament in Nashville has been canceled along with the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments.
The alumni association offices currently remain open, with operations proceeding as normal. We are working in conjunction with university officials to prepare for the potential need to allow our staff to work remotely, should it become necessary.
Beginning March 13 we are suspending all association events, including alumni club activities, until April 5. The latest status of all alumni association events can be found at mycarolina.org/events. All student alumni association events, including LANE: Leadership and Networking Event and Future Alumni Week, that take place before April 3 have been canceled.
The Pastides Alumni Center is placing increased attention on cleaning and disinfecting throughout the facility and highly touched surfaces. Additionally, a number of hand sanitizer stations have been made available within the Center.
As the situation changes, please visit the university’s coronavirus website, and stay updated on the latest campus messages and guidance. This website serves as our central hub for the latest information, including all university-wide messages. We will continue to communicate additional guidelines and updates as they become available.
