black alumni

By: Chardonnay Ismail

Zhané and Zkara Gaillard graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences in May and are headed to graduate school.

They both transferred to the University of South Carolina after their family moved to South Carolina from New York, and from taking time off to work.

Zkara majored in English, and Zhané majored in anthropology and African American studies. The twins have set a milestone in their family, as they are the first to finish college.

Next, Zkara will attend the University of Iowa for her MFA in creative writing with a specialization in fiction, and Zhané will attend the University of San Diego to pursue a Ph.D. in linguistic anthropology.
