Alumnus appointed in Veterans Affairs role

By: Chardonnay Ismail

James “Jimmy” Anderson described himself as “a kid from South Carolina who grew up uninterested in the military, college or politics.”

Now, this 2015 grad will serve in the Biden-Harris Administration as the Special Assistant to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

In this role, James will coordinate interagency efforts and assist on special projects for the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

"My time as a Gamecock veteran was instrumental in preparing me for my current role," he said. "I understand how rare it is for your interests and passions to align with your dream job, and the Veterans Alumni Council was integral in building my awareness of veterans advocacy. I am thankful for the veteran alumni who have paved the way for myself and so many other veterans to excel.

In 2016, James helped create the Veterans Alumni Council to build camaraderie and provide support to Gamecock veterans. He is a 2015 political science graduate.
