Alumna Spotight: Paula Novacki, `14
Ever wondered what life after graduation will look like? Meet Paula Novacki!
When Drew Putt entered the University of South Carolina, it was a testing ground for her. The Charleston native graduated with a senior class of 51 students and South Carolina provided a larger, diverse and more complex environment.
“The lessons I learned far exceeded the bounds of accounting and finance to include leadership through my sorority (Alpha Delta Pi), philanthropy, healthy competition, social connection and the importance of persistence and believing in yourself no matter what,” Putt says.
Putt uses her finance degree from South Carolina daily as the Chief Business Officer for Georgia’s First Credit Union and has more than 30 years of banking experience.
The leadership experiences and social connections established at South Carolina came full circle as Putt became the chair of the Alumni Association’s Atlanta Club this year. With nearly 10,000 alumni in Atlanta, there are abundant opportunities to engage them in social events, community service, professional development and more.
“I am passionate about the untapped potential of Atlanta combined with the extensive alumni network,” Putt says. Engaging alumni requires a full team and within months, a board in Atlanta totaling 18 members was formed. The board consists of graduates spanning 33 years from 1984 to 2017 and represents six different schools within the university. “Our board and chairs are talented, engaged and committed to being the best club in the system,” she says.
As a Life Member in the Alumni Association, Putt attributes her membership as an intentional way of giving back to her alma mater by adding value to students, engaging alumni and building the South Carolina brand.
The power of the Gamecock network is not lost on Putt. “Many doors opened for me personally including my third significant leadership position in finance that was gained through an introduction by the Dean of the Moore School of Business in 2011,” she says.
Now she and the rest of the Atlanta Gamecocks leadership team (pictured) are excited to create more meaningful events and opportunities for South Carolina alumni in the area.
