Hossam Tashkandi is now a three-time alumnus of the University of South Carolina. He arrived in the United States from Saudia Arabia in 2005 and since then has earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in biological sciences, and now a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences.
Tashkandi's dissertation focused on pharmacokinetics of Panaxynol and its effects against inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. Through his research, he learned that "much of what you do results in failure." His doctoral degree challenged him to overcome his biggest obstacles.
