Smoky Mountain homecoming

Tracy Swartout, a 1995 geography graduate, became the first woman superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway in May.

Swartout is a Columbia, South Carolina native, and she began her National Park Service career at Congaree National Park. 

Now, as superintendent of the 85-year-old Blue Ridge Parkway, she must weigh the interests of stakeholders in 29 counties, over two states, and bring a unique experience to park guests.
