The Ring Transition from Student to Alumna
For Ashley Pullen, her University of South Carolina ring story really began when she graduated...
When Melissa Jones considered pursuing higher education through an MBA, the only right option for her was obtaining it at the University of South Carolina
“I only wanted to go to UofSC," she said. "I was so excited to get in and to attend classes there. You see, my parents were born in the 1920's and I was encouraged to ‘get a good job’; not really to go to college.”
At South Carolina, students have multiple opportunities to participate in traditional events. Melissa wanted to experience all of the traditions like participating in the grad dine lunch, commencement and the ring ceremony. She was excited about being a part of the fall 2017 ring ceremony, because the the ladies black onyx ring was back. Melissa’s ring is something she wears proudly every day as a reminder of her experience at South Carolina. Her ring symbolizes the motivation and strength to begin a new journey at any stage in life.
“I treasure those memories and my degree because I worked hard for it, paid for it, and appreciate it more because I earned it when I was 53," she said. "I will never take it for granted."
