young alumni

By: Haven Spanyer

Introducing the newest member of the 2020 – 2021 UofSC Young Alumni Council, Danny Bounds! Danny earned his Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs in 2011. Though his graduate experience at UofSC may differ from the Gamecock undergraduate experience, his love for South Carolina is just as strong.

When Danny was searching for graduate schools, his mentor recommended he look into the University of South Carolina.

“I was recommended to attend the University of South Carolina by my college mentors and friends who attended UofSC. After visiting the campus, I fell in love with the beauty of the campus (especially the Horseshoe), the culture of history and tradition and the amazing people I interacted with. Once I was accepted, I immediately decided to attend,” he said.

As a student, Danny was a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. In that role, he was involved with the fraternity and sorority council, Dance Marathon, the Carolina Clemson Blood Drive and leadership programs. He was also involved in his graduate program’s student organization, the Student Personnel Association.

Today, Danny puts his M.Ed. to work each day in his role as Title II and Equitable Services Coordinator with the Tennessee Department of Education. He currently resides in Murfreesboro, TN.

When asked why he wanted to serve on the Young Alumni Council, Danny explained he wanted to give back to his alma mater.

“As I think about my knowledge, career and experiences in my life, I give a lot of the credit to my time at UofSC. It is an institution that continues to empower its students to model the way and challenge the process at the same time. So, having the opportunity to serve on the Young Alumni Council not only gives me the chance to give back to the institution that supported my journey in my field, but it also allows me to enlighten others to get connected with the university...whether through alumni or prospective students,” he stated.

All South Carolina alumni know how special their school is. What makes UofSC special to Danny is the people.

“Nothing compares to the people at the institution. Many of my close friends were formed at UofSC and I am forever grateful for that!” Danny exclaimed.
